Description

One might think that sculpting the likeness of a decrepit old man, with a head of grey hair, known throughout his village for his morose, acrimonious nature and penchant for boasting, would be a tedious ordeal for me. Nothing could be further from the truth! I took the greatest of pleasures in capturing, in the creases of each of his wrinkles, the subtle nuance that would reveal the cunning, cunning, or even the unsuspected inner youthfulness of this forefather – the only one who can rightly boast of worthily representing ‘our ancestors, the Gauls!’ Well, I hope you’ve managed to make out a coherent message amidst this cryptic gibberish; for my part, I’ve realised that my area of expertise is – and must remain confined to – sculpture, although I still have a long way to go…
