Blake and Mortimer

The cover of *La Marque Jaune*!… In the world of comic books, there are few images as well-known as this one.  Composed in the style of a great classical painting, it immediately struck me as the essential image from which I simply had to draw inspiration to pay tribute to the work of E.P. Jacobs. There is so much richness in this marvellous image (that ‘so British’ elegance of dress, the movement, the facial expressions, and so on) that I decided to tackle it by taking my time: just over a year passed between the first strokes of the palette knife and the completed project. By Jove! Blake and Mortimer certainly deserved us taking a little time over them…
