Philip Mortimer – The Mystery of the Great Pyramid
The Mystery of the Great Pyramid!… This is an adventure that holds a prominent place in Edgar P. Jacobs’s body of work. And amongst the many depictions of Mortimer that punctuate this marvellous story, this air of a professor ready for a fight immediately struck me as the obvious choice to pay tribute to him.
There is something particularly delightful about this Mortimer: his very ‘so British’ elegance, his imposing stature, his determined gaze and, of course, that pistol he holds firmly in his hand. For whilst our professor is, above all, a brilliant scientist, he also knows how to transform himself into a true adventurer when circumstances demand it!
So, for this new Blake and Mortimer figurine, I sought to capture all the power and effectiveness of E.P. Jacobs’ artwork, paying particular attention to his silhouette, his expression and those little details that give the character his full personality. It was a fascinating task, as Jacobs’s linework is brimming with character and precision.
