Ahhhh… Redbeard! A pirate captain as dreaded as he is, in theory, feared, he plies the seas at the head of his proud crew, ever in search of some hypothetical booty to lay claim to… In theory, the mere word ‘pirate’ should be enough to send a shiver down the spine of any ship crossing his path!
But the reality is quite different…
For poor Redbeard is finding it very hard to live up to the image of the ruthless leader he dreams of being! A true champion of bad luck, he suffers shipwrecks one after another with almost admirable regularity. Yet, never short of energy, he tirelessly continues to rally his men and set off on new adventures!
And when it isn’t our indomitable Gauls who send his ship to the bottom of the sea, it’s he himself who, to save his honour, doesn’t hesitate to scuttle it… under the stunned gaze of his crew!
With this new Asterix figurine, I wanted to capture that fleeting moment when Redbeard imagines himself as a great captain, galvanising his men with panache… just before everything inevitably goes down…
